Stories Within Stories

One of the best lessons I have taught myself, is to include many stories within one main story. By this, I mean that every chapter should essentially be a smaller story following the main character(s).

This usually allows me to enjoy writing them even more. Although, each chapter should still follow on from the one prior and continue onto the next chapter like they usually would.

Another way to look at it, think about one of your favorite TV series’ that isn’t episodic and try to remember how each episode was a story in itself, but followed on from and continued onto each episode.

Unless your novel/story is being built much different than most, I feel as though this could help most writers. To some it may be obvious, but others, especially those new to it could benefit from looking at their story like this.
